At Least It's Listed on the Label

As if I didn't have enough reasons for paranoia, here's what I stumbled across in the hand soap aisle.  That's right, "Milk Protein & Honey" Softsoap in the refill size.  (Apologies for the camera phone pic.)  So now I have no way of knowing if the liquid soap in the dispenser next to every single public sink might contain food allergens.  You may wish to buy stock in baby wipes, because I will personally be increasing the market demand for them.  It just never ends....

Thanks for sharing. Soap was not even on my radar!

I never use soap in public places. I get lots of looks, but I'd rather take the risk of having germs over having an allergic reaction. I try to have hand sanitizer with me or baby wipes for the boys.

I long for the days when soap was just soap. We ran across this issue when we visited a friends house & realized that they used soap that had walnuts or almonds in it for both hand and dish washing. Rather than take the risk, we ended up re-washing my son's plate with the last bit of Dawn dishsoap they had in the house.

It never ends...

My mother in law put that in the bathroom at our hotel on a trip recently. I saw it and immediately switched it with another plain soap. She felt so bad, she hadn't even thought about it. Amazing how vigilant you have to be!

My 3 year old daughter is allergic to milk, eggs, and peanuts. I have never allowed her use soap in public restrooms, because I just didn't know for sure that it was safe. We always carry wipes & hand sanitizer and use those instead. Thanks for sharing the pic. I'm going to use it as "proof" and share with all my family members. Thank you!!

I have thrown out so many "natural" products from my house because of the nut issue. It's hard enough checking food labels and hoping they are responsible companies.

I should also mention that I recently came across some Nivea lip gloss with a similar "flavor". I think it was milk & honey, and it did list milk in the ingredients. Just FYI.

Seriously unreal isn't it. Now please tell me how milk protein adds any real value to soap?

We saw this somewhere, too. I had to remind my husband that we couldn't use. I always check soaps because of skin issues. Thanks for the post!

The soap used in most wall mounted dispensers comes in a plastic pouch that the staff just swaps out when it runs out. Those companies tend to only carry cheap plain soap that is safe. The dispensers under the counter are also the same although in a smaller business, I would worry about someone just refilling the dispenser manually with another product. But the typical green or foaming hand soup is safe to use and that is what most chain stores and large companies use.

Bleh! Seriously, I can't believe what some companies are putting into the most benign products these days... And on top of that, are touting them as health- or functionality-enhancing additions!

You have to be mindful of soaps, hair products, like shampoos and conditioners too. It's enough to drive a mom crazy.

Found your blog through someone on FB I think. Anyway, I found these neat soap sheets (in a small package thing) in a grocery store once just hanging on a little thing on a shelf. I don't remember the ingredients in it (my son is peanut allergic) and I bought it for times we go somewhere that has no soap because they've run out or we get caught up somewhere where we might have water but no other access to soap, but maybe that's something some of you could look into. I found a different brand on walmart's website once too, don't know if they still have it. We use wipes too, but in cases where my son may eat, I like for him to actually wash his hands and not just wipe them with a baby wipe.
